Perisur (Perinatal Interventions Suriname)

December 19, 2018

Perisur (Perinatal Interventions Suriname) - an initiative of the St. Vincentius Hospital in Paramaribo and the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek (TNO Gezond Leven) [Dutch Organization for Applied Scientific Research] [TNO Healthy Life] in Leiden – started in 2012 with funding of TNO Innovation for Development.

Perisur is focused on the improvement of perinatal outcomes in Suriname through the development and implementation of effective preventive interventions aimed at care for pregnant women and their infants. The implementation of preventive interventions enables the realization of major health gains against relatively low costs.

Perisur monitors data of pregnant women and their infants to study (trends in) birth outcomes in Suriname, especially adverse birth outcomes, such as stillbirth, premature birth and birth defects.

Perisur is coordinated by a steering group in Suriname (chair Ir. Manodj Hindori, St. Vincentius Hospital) and supported by an advisory group in the Netherlands (chair dr. Symone Detmar, TNO Gezond Leven). Dr. Ashna Hindori-Mohangoo is the project leader.
