(Scientific) Symposium 2018
On December 11th, 2018, the third symposium ‘Scientific Research’ of the AZP Research Center was conducted. The introductory speech to the symposium ‘Scientific Research’ was delivered by Dr. C.W.R. Zijlmans, head of the Research Center.
In addition to patient care and training, scientific research is the third important pillar of the Academic Hospital in Paramaribo (AZP). The Research Center is focused on the professionalization of scientific research through individual support, diverse course options and the development of a solid infrastructure that contributes to a vital and sustainable research culture both within and outside of the hospital. The symposium ‘Scientific Research’ provides a moment to look back on as well as look ahead to the future of scientific research in Suriname. After all, scientific research has an indispensable role when it comes to providing the highest quality care within the health care system.
The objective of this symposium is to create a platform for (future) Surinamese researchers of different disciplines and sectors with an interest in scientific research to share their experiences and insights.
The 75 participants were presented six medical researches that are currently being conducted in Suriname in a highly accessible manner. These presentations were delivered by scientific researchers outside of the Research Center, such as the Medical Mission, the Medical Faculty, Regional Health Services, etc.
